Kerbside recycling
In July 2006 we completed a four month exercise to canvass a large proportion of Cheltenham with a view to encouraging greater use of the Council's kerbside recycling service. A team of 10 canvassers and a coordinator talked to about 15,000 households and provided information to another 10,000. There has clearly been a big increase in enthusiasm for recycling across the population, providing the Council with a good basis for further increasing recyling rates above the currently promising 24%. Rates as high as 70% have been achieved in some areas.
Together with the Council we are studying the results of the exercise and surveys to forge next steps in kerbside recycling , in particular providing communal bins for flats and establishing a team of 'community recycling champions' who will provide a neighbourhood focus for recycling.

Reclaim - Hesters Way premises now open
To complement the warehouse, and to provide a more local service in the opposite side of town, we have opened at the Hesters Way Community Centre opposite Gloscat. It's open mornings Monday to Friday and sometimes afternoons. Saturday morning and an evening opening are being considered. The shop sells a smaller selection of household goods than the warehouse, but there's a constant turn over .
